Germany Coach Backs Ozil

After a few, by his standards, poor weeks, Germany boss Joachim Low has backed Ozil and says he’s still a key member of the Germany squad, and thats extremely bold from Low with Germany probably having the best depth in midfield in world football.

Two incidents have summed up the last seven days for Ozil: the missed penalty against Bayern and the controversy involving his clutch control and a photographer.

Its obvious that Ozil is completely out of confidence and hasnt really contributed at all in terms of goals and assists over the past month which really has had big effect on his morale.

In an interview with Bild, Low labelled Ozil as a ‘key player’.

He added: ‘I’m counting on Mesut (for Brazil), because I know that he wants success in tournaments: he’s shown that in the past.’

Doubts over Ozil’s quality and value to Low’s side have already begun to surface in Germany, with some suggesting that the national team coach may opt to play Bayern’s Mario Gotze ahead of the Arsenal forward in Brazil.

But Low pointed out that it was only last year that the German public had voted Ozil their National Team Player of the Year, and insisted that the player had ‘been decisive in important qualifying games.’

He also believes, contrary to popular opinion, that the 25-year-old is more than capable of dealing with the pressure on the big stage.
