Steven Gerrard has said that he is impressed with Lee Wallace’s performance against St Johnstone.

The former skipper made his first start of the season for the Teddy Bears and replaced the injured Borna Barisic.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has hailed former skipper Lee Wallace’s performance against St Johnstone in their last match in the Scottish Premiership as the Teddy Bears went within touching distance of Celtic in the title race. The Glasgow side now trail their arch-rivals by just one point and would look to take them over when they lock horns against each other on the 29th of December.

Speaking to the media in the post-match conference, Gerrard said that he was angry with his players’ performance in the first half. He said, “The first half wasn’t good enough all over the pitch. We were awful. Nobody did the shirt justice, nobody looked like a Rangers player to me.”

He added, “I had to have the honest conversation with them at half-time. I let my feelings be known clearly. I had to tell them what the fans thought of them because you could hear their reaction at the end of the first half. There was no hairdryer in there. But if there was one…I’m not trying to be sarcastic. I’m just saying that, if there was a hairdryer in there, it would have been used. My job is to let them know what the fans think and it’s my job to demand more out of them and we got a major reaction second half. Every single player to a man stood up to be counted.”

Speaking about Wallace, he said, “I’m pleased he’s come back in and sampled a win because he’s been working hard in training and deserved his opportunity.”
