Gervinho blames Wenger for ‘lack of confidence’

Ex-Arsenal forward Gervinho has criticised his former manager Arsene Wenger for not having faith in his ability during his tenure at Arsenal.

The 26 year old forward joined Arsenal for £10.8 million from Lille in 2011 but only scored nine league goals in his two years at the club. He left Arsenal in the summer transfer window for Serie A club Roma.

Gervinho has know blamed Arsene Wenger for making him unconfident by not giving him enough first team football and time on the pitch.

Speaking to SunSport, Gervinho said: ‘I was not getting much time on the pitch and was in need of this time to improve and play my best football.”

‘Wenger was not prepared to give it to me.”

‘Also my position on the wing was not what I was expecting and I wasn’t happy with it.’

And speaking about his former French boss, the forward added: ‘It would have helped had he shown more confidence in me.’
