Diego Costa and Eden Hazard are to blame for poor start, says Chelsea legend

Gianfranco Zola has pointed the finger at Diego Costa and Eden Hazard for Chelsea’s poor start to the new campaign.

The Blues sit 16th in the Premier League table following seven losses from their opening 12 games, and Zola believes it’s down to the poor form of attacking duo Costa and Hazard.

The duo were on fire all season last year for Chelsea and were two of the key parts to the title-winning campaign, but so far this year, they’ve only managed to net two league goals between them.

Jose Mourinho‘s men have just three wins to their name so far this season, against Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion and Arsenal, and Zola believes Costa and Hazard are to blame for the poor start.

Zola Slates Duo

“There is one compelling reason for the poor start to the season,” Zola said of his former club.

“The poor form of key offensive players Eden Hazard and Diego Costa has not helped. Defensively as well the team has dropped the standards set last year.

“The players have lost confidence as a group and this has led to poor results. The club has it in them to turn around their fortunes.”
