FIFA President Gianni Infantino thinks that new tournaments can protect the relevance of football. FIFA are keen to start two new tournaments- a new Club World Cup and a Worldwide Nations League. This is a prospect that doesn’t thrill UEFA because they think such tournamets lack commercial appeal.

UEFA and FIFA will meet today at Kigali to talk about this matter. Infantino said, “I really think we have to think out of the box to think about new models to preserve football and the relevance of football and the structure of football. I don’t think there is anything that dramatic or wrong to discuss about competitions, to discuss about how to commercialise these competitions. I don’t understand this hype.”

A source claims that UEFA have considered walking out of today’s meeting at Kigali. The introduction of the new tournament means the scrubbing of the current format of the Club World Cup. Also, it’ll be the end of the FIFA Confederations Cup.
