Legend discusses star Lingard

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has claimed that star Jesse Lingard was a ‘nightmare’ to coach, because ‘he always did everything right’.

The midfielder made in England debut on Saturday against Malta, where he put in an impressive performance, albeit against a lesser side.

He became a first-team regular at United last season under Louis van Gaal, but has managed to keep his place under Jose Mourinho this season.

Lingard emerged from United’s academy and came through the system while Ryan Giggs was a player at Old Trafford.

And, speaking to ITV after England’s win against Malta last night, Giggs explained how Lingard was impossible to coach because he was a natural in all positions.

‘He can play a number of positions. He’ll give you energy, he’ll score goals, he’s a team player, but now at 23, he’s got to kick on,’ said Giggs.

‘I coached him when he was 10, and my subject for my A license was coaching a number 10. It was nightmare because he did everything right.’
