The Welshman will end his 29-year association with the club

Ryan Giggs is set to leave Manchester United after turning down Jose Mourinho’s offer to take up a lesser role at the club.

The 42-year old was the assistant manager to Louis van Gaal during the last two seasons, but new manager Mourinho wants to bring in his own coaching staff.

Rui Faria has already been confirmed as the Special One’s assistant at Old Trafford, whereas Silvinho Louro and Carlos Lalin are also set to join the coaching set-up as goalkeeper coach and first team coach respectively.

What next?

Giggs, who is on holiday in Dubai, has confirmed that there is yet to be a meeting between himself and club officials over his future.

He has also denied that he has been offered a new role where he would bridge between the first team and the under 21s.

However, Giggs is open to the idea of leaving the club where he spent his full playing career, because he wants to explore possible managerial opportunities.
