Goalkeeper decision NOT made – Klopp

Jurgen Klopp says it is untrue he has already decided to restore Lorius Karius to the Liverpool goal this weekend.

Asked about Karius at his pre-match press conference the Reds boss said: “Who said I decided this? I have decided nothing in this case.

“We have not had 100 fantastic games in a row and that involves different players, myself and everything. But it is not that we make a decision like this at this moment.

“There is nothing to say about it but it is not right someone could have this information. Whoever gave you the information please delete him from your list.”

Klopp was also coy when asked to share information on reports of an imminent new contract for Adam Lallana.

“Adam is a very important player for the squad with a pretty long contract. How close? We won’t talk about this, but it says nothing about his importance if we are negotiating or not.

“We speak with player, we have to speak with agents and when something is decided we inform you immediately, but not beforehand.”

Klopp also spoke about Liverpool’s performances against other top six clubs, making it clear he’d like improvement.

“Our record should be better,” said Klopp. “We know we can do a lot of good things still but we have to show it on the pitch.

“Against a team like Tottenham, we need everything. If we play like we did in first half against Hull – no chance. If we play like we did in that second half then [we have a] better chance, but we want better.”

Liverpool slipped to fifth in the Premier League table after their 2-0 defeat to Hull last weekend, leaving them four points behind Tottenham ahead of their match at Anfield.

“I don’t think too much about other teams,” Klopp added. “Things like this [Tottenham’s good run] happen.

“It [Liverpool’s top six record] should be better, remember that offside goal against Man United?

“We don’t look for excuses, we look for solutions. Just because you aren’t flying, it doesn’t mean you can’t win next game.

“We are still convinced that this is a long-term project. The players learn but it’s my job to bring them into the right situation.

“I don’t question everything [after a defeat]. Everything is easier when you win a game but the jobs is still the same to do [no matter the result].”
