Goodison text inspires Anichebe

West Brom and ex-Everton striker Victor Anichebe has admitted that a text message from inside the Everton camp inspired him to help out his old club and help hold Liverpool to a draw at The Hawthorns. Anichebe left boyhood club Everton for West Brom in the summer, but his love for the club is motivating him to help The Blues secure Champions League football this season.

A win for Liverpool at West Brom would’ve sent them 4 points clear in the final Champions League spot, but Anichebe was ready when centre-back Kolo Toure made a shocking pass across the box ready for him to pounce on and equalise for West Brom.

“I felt I was going to help the team, even though I didn’t start,” said the Nigerian striker, “it’s always nice to score. Sometimes I might have switched off [when Toure played the ball] but today I was ready, especially against Liverpool. I was there and I finished it. I was itching to get on, and I got a text from one of Everton’s masseurs, Jimmy Comer, saying ‘help us do the reds today.”

The draw meant Liverpool stay 2 points above Everton, but Toure’s mistake could prove costly at the end of the season.
