Arsenal and United set to miss out on Everton star

Pep Guardiola is confident that Manchester City will win the race for Everton defender John Stones.

The new City manager targeted the young star as soon as he arrived in England, and is now positive he can pull the deal off. He faced competition from Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona, for a player thought to cost around the ÂŁ45million mark.

Barcelona dropped out of the race earlier this month, believing the the 22-year-old had his heart set on a move to the Etihad.

That appeared to leave the 3 English clubs batting for him, with Arsene Wenger a big fan and Jose Mourinho having tried to sign Stones last summer at Chelsea, butt Guardiola believes the former Barnsley player has opted to head to the blue side of Manchester.

Guardiola is determined to strengthen a defence that sorely-missed Vincent Kompany for large parts of last season, due to the Belgium international’s ongoing calf problems.
