Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said that Sergio Aguero did not need any convincing to sign a new contract with the club. The Argentine striker signed a one-year extension with Manchester City that will keep him at the club till 2021.

Aguero joined Manchester City from Atletico Madrid in 2011 on a transfer fee of ÂŁ38 million. So far, he has played 299 matches for the club and has scored 204 goals. He helped City win three Premier League titles. The first of them came in the 2011-12 season where Aguero’s last gasp winner against QPR won the Premier League for them.

He has been Manchester City’s Player of the Season on two occasions and the Premier League Player of the Month on five occasions. Aguero also won the Premier League Golden Boot in 2015.

Pep Guardiola expressed his delight on Aguero signing a new contract with the club. He said, “I did not need to convince him, he decided for himself. I thank him so much for trusting us. Players like him, Vincent (Kompany), David (Silva), they show every day on the training pitch, on the pitch and off the pitch, their commitment to our club and I appreciate it a lot.

I am so happy we could extend his contract and keep him 10 years at one club. Before it was easier to find players who will stay at the same club their whole career.  It is not bad when players try to discover new languages, or go to new places with their families, play in other leagues and improve themselves. It happened with Sergio. He left Argentina to go to Madrid and then came here. He is an important player for the club, not just the team. I don’t know if he will finish his career here, because I don’t know what will happen after two or three years, but it’s nice to count on him.”

This season, Aguero has started all matches for Manchester City, scoring three goals. Those three goals was a hat-trick against Huddersfield Town last month. Just like last season, Aguero scored the first hat-trick of the Premier League.

Manchester City are currently 3rd in the Premier League table behind Chelsea and Liverpool. They play their next match against Cardiff City tomorrow.
