Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is of the opinion that teenage midfielder Phil Foden is ready for the Premier League. The 18-year old was impressive in City’s 2-0 win over Chelsea in the Community Shield at Wembley yesterday, assisting Sergio Aguero’s first of two goals.

Guardiola said, “He was ready last season. Now he is one year on, he is more mature. He was training last season with us and he fought well with all of our players. It is so good to have another player with his talent. He’s a City fan and Mancunian and it is so good for us.”

Foden began playing for the Manchester City youth team from 2009 when he was just 9 years old. In 2017, he left the youth team and joined the senior team. He played 6 matches for City across all competitions last season.

Foden made a huge contribution in England’s U-17 World Cup win in India last year. Foden scored three goals including two in the final against Spain and provided three assists throughout the tournament. He won the Golden Ball for being the best player of the tournament.
