Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has said that he is surprised by the 9-goal win against Burton Albion. The Citizens scored 9 goals against the League One club as they steamrolled them in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg. Manchester City made their opposition look like complete minnows as they scored for fun with half of their squad notching up goals in the match.

Speaking to the media after the match, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager said,

“We spoke about travelling to Burton with as big an advantage as possible but we didn’t expect to score so many goals. It’s good for us because we can play the second team and players who don’t play so many minutes. In this incredible schedule, we have a little bit of a break in that week to prepare for the other competitions.”

He added, “It’s the best way to respect the competition and respect the opponents. If you are 4-0 up and forget to continue, you don’t have respect for the competition or your opponent. The best way is do what we have to do.”
