Jonas Gutierrez the Argentine midfielder looks set to be leaving Newcastle after a lack of appearances for the club this season.

After only making two appearances all season the thirty year old seems to be seeking a new challenge away from the Toon army.

Gutierrez joined from La Liga side Real Mallorca in 2008 and has enjoyed a five year spell at the club appearing 163 times for Newcastle and in that time he has also scored ten goals for the Magpies.

Gutierrez tweeted “I enjoy my five years at the club, I hope the club finish the highest this season and the best to my team-mates,”

He added: “It was an honour and a pleasure to play with the Newcastle shirt and to have the support of the Geordie.”

After Kevin Keegan signed him in 2008 Gutierrez was part of the side that won the Championship in 2010 to return to the Premier League. Gutierrez is now set for a new challenge in his career. Which is likely to be away from England and the Premier League.
