Harry Kane denies any deterioration in form

England captain Harry Kane has said that his form has not dipped since the World Cup. Kane played a major role in england’s run to the semi-finals at the World Cup by scoring 6 goals. He won the Golden Boot thus becoming the first England player since Gary Lineker to win the award.

However, Kane’s performances for England since the World Cup haven’t been very consistent. Kane last scored a goal for England against Colombia during the World Cup. Six matches have passed and Kane hasn’t netted a single goal  for the Three Lions. This is his joint-longest run without a goal for England.

Kane had a really good chance to score in the Nations League fixture against Croatia on Friday but he hit the woodwork. The match eventually ended in a 0-0 draw.

The England captain has denied that his form has suffered a dip. He said, “I don’t think my game has dipped. It’s been tough after the World Cup not getting much rest, but I think I dealt with it well. I’ve stayed fit and stayed healthy. That was my main priority at the start of the season. Now it’s building on that and pushing forward over the winter.

I set a standard for myself and I want to reach that standard every game I play. Sometimes you fall below it for one reason or another. It’s about learning and improving and that is what I will do for the rest of my career. I just stay focused on my job and what I need to do. In the Premier League, I’m second top goalscorer. I’d like to have scored more for England recently.”

Kane has a pretty prolific scoring record for England with 19 goals in just 33 matches. He has a very positive chance of surpassing Wayne Rooney as England’s all-time top scorer. The Tottenham Hotspur striker may have a dry patch now but there’s no doubt he will rebound strongly and will soon score consistently for England.

England take on the return leg against Spain at Seville tomorrow.
