Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane is eyeing a February return after suffering ligament damage in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at Wembley on Sunday.

The English international was seen hobbling at the end of the match and later Spurs issued a statement confirming the player’s injury. “Following preliminary assessments, we can confirm that Harry Kane has damaged ligaments in his left ankle, sustained during Sunday’s match.

“He will continue to be monitored by our medical staff as he commences rehabilitation and is expected to return to training in early March.”

Kane has been Tottenham’s main man for the last few seasons and his absence would be a big blow for Mauricio Pochettino who is gearing up to push more in a bid to close the gap with the top two. The North London giants are losing their grip in the title race and following their loss to United the difference has widened again.

But the forward had returned sooner during the course of his previous injuries and the club is hoping he would emulate the feat this time. Should Spurs make their way to the EFL Cup final Kane could make his return in that match.
