Harry Redknapp discusses potential deals for veterans

Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has played down reports linking the club with signing veterans Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard.

The two Englishmen have officially left Manchester United and Chelsea respectively, but it’s believed contract talks are still going on between Lampard and The Blues, but for now, he is technically a free agent after his contract expired at The Bridge.

As for Ferdinand, he has left Old Trafford and is now on the look out for a new club, and due to their past relationship, Redknapp could be in line to land the defender at recently-promoted QPR.

Redknapp, who is in fact Lampard’s uncle, managed both the 35-year-olds at West Ham in the early stages of their career, and in a recent interview, he has admitted that signing them both would be extremely difficult.

Redknapp said: “I would think there’s absolutely no chance of getting Frank. He’s at Chelsea.

“I’d be very surprised if Chelsea don’t keep him anyway – he’s just been such a fantastic player.

“Rio’s now a free agent but I’m sure he’s going to have so many offers.

“Again, I love Rio, I signed them both as 15-year-olds but the chances of getting them to QPR are very slim.”
