Newcastle United midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa believes he is good enough to win football’s most elite individual award – the Ballon d’OR.
The injury-prone mifdielder has impressed many with his dazzling performances, when he has been fit, and has scored some world-class goals for The Magpies in the two seasons he has been in England.
Giving an interview in his homeland of France, Ben Arfa hopes to be spoken in the same league as the likes of; Pele, Maradona and Zinedine Zidane.
He told France Football: ‘People will think I’m crazy, but I still dream of winning the Ballon d’Or.
‘I’m sure it’s still possible. In 20 or 30 years, I want my name to be mentioned alongside those of Platini, Zidane, Pele or Maradona.’
Last year’s top three in the Ballon d’Or awards was; Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Andres Iniesta.
