Arsenal are preparing to offer the defender a longer and more expensive deal with the club

Arsenal are hoping to ward off interest in Hector Bellerin by offering him a new deal at the club.

According to reports today, the Gunners are desperate to retain the full-back and will offer him a new contract in the hopes of warding off interest from the likes of Man City and Barcelona.

Man City enquired about the availability of the right-back over the summer but they were told by Arsene Wenger’s side that he was not for sale and no bid was officially made for him. However, City remain eager to bring him to the club and plan to make a concrete move in the summer.

Barcelona have also been linked with a move and as the Spaniard’s boyhood club, they could be able to lure him to the club if they did make an approach.

Increased wages

Arsenal though are hoping that by offering Bellerin a contract extension – despite his current contract still having three years left to run – they can keep the defender at the club for the foreseeable future and can get rid of the interest from the two clubs. This extension would add another two years onto his current contract.

As well as increasing the length of his deal, Arsene Wenger also plans to increase his wages. He is currently on ÂŁ30,000 a week but after a tremendous season with the Gunners, they are set to offer him some more money that would better suit his value and status at the club. Again, this could help convince the player to put pen to paper on a new deal.

Although the deal isn’t officially on the table as of yet, Arsenal have made contact with the player’s representatives about this new deal and official talks are set to take place soon.
