Former Arsenal and France players Robert Pires and William Gallas believe that Thierry Henry will do well as a manager. Henry has been appointed the new manager of his former club Monaco. He will replace Leonardo Jardim who received the sack after a string of poor results this season. Henry previously was assistant to Roberto Martinez at the Belgium football team, holding that position for two years.

The Arsenal and France legend previously had an offer to become the manager of Bordeaux but he declned.

Monaco have won just one of their 9 Ligue 1 matches and are currently 18th in the Ligue 1 table. Monaco will be the first club that Henry will be the head coach of. Hence, Henry will take the reins  at a very critical time for Monaco.

However, his former Arsenal and France teammates William Gallas and Robert Pires believe that he will do just fine.

Gallas said, “When he was a player, he knew every player in Ligue 1, Ligue 2 and the national levels so he’s somebody who really is interested in football whether it be in France, Europe or the rest of the World. He just needed the right opportunity to coach. Before Monaco he had other options. Aston Villa offered him the position, he didn’t want it. Same thing for Bordeaux, he didn’t want it either. He knew why.

I think Monaco gave him assurances on some points that must have been very important to him. And moreover, Monaco, that’s where he started his career. So it is destiny that he is to come back to Monaco as a coach, and I’m very happy for him.”

Pires thinks that having played under several top managers, Henry can use that experience at Monaco. He said, “With Thierry Henry you need to be passionate, passion is a really important thing for him. He learned a lot of things from Roberto Martinez, when he used to play with Arsenal with [Arsene] Wenger or Barcelona with Pep Guardiola he learned a lot of things.

I think he can make a success because Titi loves football, he knows everything about football, about the teams and the players, I’m very confident for Titi.”

Henry’s first match as Monaco manager will be against Strasbourg against Saturday.
