Newly-appointed Monaco manager Thierry Henry remains positive despite Monaco losing their first match with Henry in-charge. Monaco appointed Henry as their manager following the sacking of Leonardo Jardim.

Monaco registered their 6th Ligue 1 defeat by losing 2-1 to Strasbourg yesterday. Adrein Thomasson opened the scoring for Monaco in the 27th minute thanks to an error by goalkeeper Seydou Sy. Monaco skipper Radamel Falcao had a goal denied before he had to leave the putch due to an injury.

Things started to get worse for Monaco as Samuel Grandsir got a red card due to a foul on Anthony Goncalves and they were down to 10 men. Strasbourg took the advantage of the extra man and doubled their lead in the 84th minute thanks to Lebo Mothiba. However, Monaco won a late penalty which Youri Tielemans converted. However, that goal was a mere consolation.

Monaco are now 19th in the table with only Guingamp below them.

Following the match, Henry said, “It wasn’t easy, we tried to put something in place which worked at the beginning, and then we conceded that goal that I don’t need to describe… Human error, I don’t want to wipe the floor with anyone.

Then we tried to change the game, and unfortunately Sam (Grandsir) is sent off. After that it was even harder, but we still tried to keep playing. But I want to keep positive despite the negatives… The game could have turned in our favour, but it didn’t. In addition, we lost (Radamel) Falcao at the beginning. It wasn’t the dream scenario.”

Monaco’s next match is a Champions League fixture against Club Brugge at Bruges on Wednesday. Both teams have lost their previous two matches against Atletico Madrid and Borussia and will hope to register their first points in the Champions League.
