Thierry Henry could leave MLS side New York Red Bull at the end of his current contract, according to reports in the American media.

37 year old Henry is not going to renew his deal with the American franchise, with his current deal expiring in the December of this year, leaving him free to either talk to other club’s, or ponder possible retirement from the game.

Henry, who is undoubtedly one of the modern era’s greatest centre forwards, became a fans favourite following a prolonged stint at Arsenal between 1997-2008, where he broke the all-time goal scoring record at the North London club, scoring 228 Premier League goals.

The Frechman then moved onto have a brief stint with Barcelona, where he also enjoyed success (winning the treble in 2008/09), before a move to New York, and the MLS in 2010, becoming the sides designated overseas draft player, with Henry then joining the likes of David Beckham and Robbie Keane as a former Premier League player in the States.

Henry, like many other players of his era, has flourished in the MLS during the Autumn of his career, having scored 50 times in 121 appearances, as ‘soccer’ continues to grow in North America.

Red Bull global head of football, Gerard Houllier, revealed in July that Henry was contemplating potential retirement.

“I have an idea [about Henry’s intentions],” the former Liverpool manager had said. “I think he wants to retire.”
