Gonzalo Higuain’s agent says no clubs have enquired about his client

Higuain’s agent has criticised Napoli’s president for publicly speaking about the forward’s £67.4million release clause.

The 27-year-old, who reportedly told Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis he wants to leave, has attracted interest by a number of clubs including Arsenal and Liverpool.

Despite first warning any potential suitors off the Argentina international, Laurentiis admitted in a more recent interview he would sell the striker for big money.

Agent’s comments

However, Higuain’s brother Nicholas, who represents the Napoli forward has recently denied any clubs making contact with him in regards to the transfer of his client.

“The last time I saw De Laurentiis was at San Paolo after the Lazio match, having dinner with the team and former coach [Rafael] Benitez.

“No team has asked me for Higuain, I don’t know if Laurentiis has had any offers, but I think he’d have called me if there was something concrete” said Nicolas.

Liverpool interest

The Reds manager Brendan Rodgers is rumoured to be a long-term admirer of Higuain and now Raheem Sterling has left, Rodgers may opt for the former Real Madrid man.

Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus has also been strongly linked with a move to Anfield – the Germany international only recently signed a new contract with the Bundesliga giants.

Sterling, who completed his £49million move to Manchester City, has signed a five-year deal which will keep him at the Etihad until July 2020.
