Striker wants to get Napoli back in the Champions League

Napoli star Gonzalo Higuain has revealed why he snubbed the chance to join Arsenal over the summer – he wants to get his current club back in the Champions League.

The Argentine international was heavily linked with a move away from the Serie A side following last season’s failures, but he chose to remain at the club and help them get back into Europe’s top competition.

In a summer that saw Rafael Benitez leave, Higuain remained loyal and stayed put, snubbing a chance to join Premier League side Arsenal in the process.

The Gunners were interested in Higuain during his Real Madrid days, but after stalling on the deal, they missed out on him as Napoli secured a deal.

However, Arsene Wenger reportedly renewed his interest this summer, only to be rejected.

Higuain Reveals Why He Stayed

“This is just the beginning and we still need to give our best,” Higuain told Italian news outlet Mediaset Premium.

“I didn’t think about what happened in the past, as I am focused on the future. I stayed here to take Napoli back into the Champions League.

“Can we target the Scudetto? Obviously we have to aim high, but meanwhile Napoli deserve to be in the Champions League.

“I am happy for us and for our fans. Now we need to have a rest, because on Wednesday we’ve got Carpi.”
