The 16-year-old prospect has already produced some highly-impressive performances.

Barcelona have opened contract talks with teenager Ansu Fati following his blistering start to the season.

Ansu Fati may only be 16 years of age, but he is already taking up a lot of the attention in and around Barcelona as the 2019/2020 season picks up. The 16-year-old became Barcelona’s youngest ever scorer and the third-youngest scorer in the history of La Liga when he netted against Osasuna last month before following that up with another strike against Valencia on Saturday.

Now the club is reportedly looking to tie him down to a big long-term contract. According to Catalan radio programme Club de la Mitjanit, Barcelona’s plan is to get Fati’s to sign a five-year contract extension until 2024 to his current deal.

Despite signing a new deal through to 2022, the renewal carries a bonus to the player of €700,000 and he is set to set to earn up to €1.5 million. Although his salary will be dependent on whether he remains officially part of the ‘B’ team or is included in the first team squad along with the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Antoine Griezmann and Osumane Dembele.

Although Lionel Messi is making the trip to Dortmund for Tuesday’s Champions League opener, Valverde is expected to start his talisman on the bench as he recovers from his lay-off. Fati could line up alongside Antoine Griezmann and Luis Suarez, with the Argentine awaiting his chance from the bench if required.

If he does play, Ansu Fati will enter the list of the top ten youngest players to appear in the Champions League.
