Ex-Everton boss could replace Bruce

Hull City are set to interview Roberto Martinez as a potential replacement for Steve Bruce.

Bruce stepped down from the manager’s role at the newly promoted club on Friday after frustrations surrounding missing out on transfer targets.

The relationship between Bruce and the club chairman Ehab Allam had completely broken down, so he walked away from the club.

Martinez is ready to get back into work despite being sacked by Everton at the end of last season. However, he has previously been careful in choosing the clubs he works at, in the interest of having a good relationship with the people higher up within the club.

Hull have put Bruce’s assistant Mike Phelan in temporary charge and he took charge of Saturday’s 2-0 friendly win at Scunthorpe when Shaun Maloney and Abel Hernandez scored.

The Tigers are aiming to stay in the Premier League after being relegated last year.
