Bayern Munich midfielder, Franck Ribery, has revealed that he was close to joining Chelsea or Manchester City back in 2009.

The French international has admitted in a recent interview that Chelsea were offering big money for him back in ’09, just as Louis Van Gaal took over at the Allianz Arena, but he stated that conversations with the hierarchy at the club convinced him to stay.

Ribery has gone on to become one of Munich’s top talents and is still there now, working under Pep Guardiola, but he has admitted that there were offers for his services five years ago.

He said: “I was pulled one way and then the other, that made my head spin.

“I was on the verge of leaving, then had two, three conversations with (former general manager) Uli Hoeness and (chairman) Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. And they were really cool, I will never forget that.”

As well as that, Ribery admitted that Chelsea were offering “60, 65, 70, or even 80 million euros” to try and land him.
