Veteran is likely to leave Stamford Bridge this Summer

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has admitted that he faces an uphill battle in trying to keep Petr Cech at the club past this Summer, as Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool continue to monitor the goalkeeper.

Speaking after watching his side crash to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of West Bromwich Albion, Mourinho was asked about the veteran’s future and he admitted that if the ‘keeper wants to leave, he will leave as it’s out of the manager’s hands.

Cech’s Future

Cech was reportedly considering his future last Summer after being told by Mourinho that he would no longer be the number-one at Stamford Bridge, but instead of moving, he decided to stay put and fight for his place.

However, a year down the line, Cech has been unable to win back his spot from Thibaut Courtois and is now ready to face a new challenge.

According to reports, the veteran is ‘99.9%’ sure he’s going to join Arsenal in the Summer, and despite Mourinho not wanting to sell to a fierce-rival, he’s admitted that he cannot prevent it from happening.

Mourinho Admits Powerless

“If it’s in my hands he would never go, would never go to big clubs with fantastic teams,” Mourinho told talkSPORT.

“Big candidates to win the Premier League. I would never let him go. But it’s not in my hands. My perfect scenario is that he stays with us, I think he belongs to this club, this club belongs to his history and to his life, too.

“He is a fantastic keeper, fantastic dressing room and squad man. I tried to prove the respect I have for him. I played him in the cups, gave him matches in the Premier League.

“I can imagine that a 32 or 33 year old keeper feels young and feels the passion to play every game.”

Arsenal Favourites

It’s believed Arsenal will push through a ÂŁ10million deal for Cech and that they are just waiting on Roman Abramovich to finalise the deal.

The Gunners thought they’d miss out on the shot-stopper due to Mourinho not wanting to sell to a rival, especially as last year he prevented Demba Ba from joining Arsenal on loan just after they signed Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid.

However, this time around, the decision is out of the manager’s hands, meaning Arsenal could well be Cech’s future destination.
