I expect to be rested throughout Christmas, says Giroud

Christmas time in the Premier League is heaven for football fans as they get to see numerous games from the best league in the world, however, if you are the only recognised striker at a club, it can get pretty tiring with the busy schedule.

That is the problem that faces Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud.

He has started nearly every game so far this season for The Gunners due to them lacking depth in that department, and he has admitted today that he will be rested at some point during December, even though he doesn’t like watching from the bench.

Injuries to Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski have left Arsene Wenger with just Giroud and Nicklas Bendtner as attacking options, but with the injured duo almost fully fit, it is expected that Giroud may finally get a rest from first-team action.

‘It did feel strange (to be on the bench against Hull) and I was a bit frustrated because I really want to play every game, Giroud said.

‘But the boss said he had reason to leave me on the bench because it is better to have a rest sometimes, but I am obviously just really happy that the team won the game.’

Giroud added in the Arsenal matchday programme: ‘We need everyone playing well to achieve our objectives this season and it is a really good thing for Nicklas and for his confidence.

‘When we manage to play our game, it is always very difficult for the opponents because they have to defend deep and be compact.’
