Idrissa Gueye reveals the resurgence of Andre Gomes is helping both him and Everton.
Gomes was brought in on a season long loan in the summer as Marco Silva took a gamble by offering the player a chance to revive his career at the Goodison Park. The gamble seems to have paid as the Portuguese international has been an influential figure since he recovered from injury.
Barcelona bought Gomes from Valencia in a bid to strengthen their midfield but the player endured a difficult time on the pitch leading to speculation regarding his future.
Ernesto Valverde brought Arthur to fill in the leaking gaps in the middle of the pitch and Gomes’ departure was only a matter of time. The 25 year old has shown flashes of brilliance this season and the onus will be on him as Everton gearing up to face Liverpool on Sunday.
Gueye said, “He [Gomes] is a very good player.
“He knows what he has to do and I know what I have to do and we try to help each other. That is why it is working well.
“But the good things start on the training ground because the players who are on the bench help us a lot. They train hard every week and don’t give up to get in the team and that’s why we are where we are in the league.
“I play more back because Andre is a more forward player than me so sometimes I have to control the game and to see when is good to go forward or to stay. But it’s a good balance with Andre.
“For me it’s the same. If I can help the team, going back or forward, the most important thing is to bring what I can for the team.”
