Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that he isn’t sure whether or not Sir Alex Ferguson offered him the Manchester United job after he chose to retire.

The former-Barcelona manager was talking ahead of his side’s Champions League game with United, and when asked about Ferguson, Guardiola admitted that they are good friends and then continued to joke claiming that he may have been offered the chance to replace The Scot.

Eventually, United chose David Moyes from Everton and despite their season being a far-cry from what they were last season, Guardiola admits it’s an honour to play United.

“To try to achieve the next round against a team like Manchester United is a real honour.

“The Champions League is not the most important title – the domestic league is – but it is the most prestigious.

“Now we are eight teams in the quarter-finals and every trainer and every player wants to win it – but it is not easy.”

The Spaniard was then asked about Sir Alex Ferguson, and he admitted that they had dinner together once and due to the lack of English he spoke, he wasn’t sure whether he was offered the job or not to replace him.

The Spaniard added: “Sir Alex invited me to a superb restaurant and we had a very good time.

“It was friendly and, like always with me and since I started as a coach, he was so gentle and we spent a very good time together.”

Guardiola then joked: “My English is not too good and sometimes he was probably speaking too quickly for me to understand – maybe that’s why I didn’t understand if I received an offer or not.”
