Lukaku’s loan spell at Everton ends at the end of the season and he stated earlier this week that Chelsea will decide this summer whether he will be incorporated into Jose Mourinho’s first-team plans, sold or loaned out for the third season in a row.

Everton’s hopes of securing his services for another year may be adversely affected by the fact they are unlikely to qualify for the Champions League, while reports earlier this month claimed Tottenham could look to prise him away from their London rivals in a £25m move.

Now Roma, who will play in next season’s Champions League, are poised to ramp up their interest in the young Belgian.

The Italian capital club want to sign him on loan, either for one season or two seasons, with an option to buy. Their chances of capturing the former Anderlecht man will hinge upon whether or not he extends his contract at Chelsea beyond the summer of 2016.

The 20-year-old, who has scored 14 goals for Everton after striking 17 times for West Brom last year, has managed only four starts for his parent club since joining from Anderlecht in 2011.
