According to reports, Inter Milan have held talks with Barcelona over signing Ivan Rakitic. The Nerazzurri have reportedly reached an understanding to sign the Croatian midfielder in the summer. Rakitic himself earlier said that he does not wish to leave Barcelona and intends to discuss a new contract with the club. Rakitic’s current contract at Barca runs out in 2021 but reports in Spain claim that the club don’t want to discuss a new deal with him.
Rakitic has been an integral player for Barcelona since joining the club from Sevilla in 2014. This season, the Croat has made 36 appearances for the Blaugrana across all competitions. He has scored four goals and has provided 6 assists so far.
There were reports linking Rakitic to a move to Chelsea. However, Rakitic’s agent denied those links. Now, Inter Milan are looking to sign the 30-year old. Inter and Barcelona have reportedly laid the groundwork for a £34 million deal in the summer. Inter previously offered £30 million to Barca but Josep Bartomeu was holding out for an offer of £39 million.
Several top clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, Juventus and Bayern Munich have also shown an interest in Rakitic.
Provided Inter manage to sign Rakitic, the midfielder will unite with national team teammates Ivan Perisic and Marcelo Brozovic.
