Inter Milan have rejected all speculations regarding Antonio Conte’s potential return to the club as the next manager.
Conte was seen near the Inter headquarters and reports doing rounds the Italian is going to take charge of the Nerazzurri very soon. The former Chelsea manager has been without a job since leaving the Stamford Bridge this summer.
Inter’s Coppa Italia loss to Lazio fueled speculations over Luciano Spalletti’s imminent future. Following their defeat to Torino and a goalless draw with Sassuolo pressure had already mounted on the manager.
Conte is technically still contracted with Chelsea and is being paid by the Blues regularly. But the manager is desperate to return to his job and earlier has been linked with Real Madrid and a host of other clubs.
Inter sporting director Beppe Marotta insists they are pretty happy with Spalletti’s performance and don’t have any intentions to remove him. “Milan’s a big city, in addition to being a beautiful one.
“I think it’s legitimate that a citizen like he can walk around the city centre.
“We’ve got Spalletti and he’s doing well and we’re third in Serie A, and still in the running in the Coppa Italia and Europa League. The club has the utmost faith in him.”
