The Barcelona defender is close to completing a move to Inter Milan

Martin Montoya looks set to join Roberto Mancini’s side this summer, according to reports in Italy.

Montoya’s agent Juan de Dios Carrasco told Calciomercarto.com that talks between his client and Inter are ongoing and that Montoya is looking forward to playing in Serie A.

“We’re talking to Inter about Montoya. Let’s hope there could be a good conclusion to these negotiations. We’re working on it” said Carrasco.

The Barcelona man’s agent added: “Montoya feels that Inter are a great club and this would represent a great opportunity.”

Montoya, 24, made just 8 appearances last season and now Dani Alves has signed a new contract extension the Spaniard looks set to leave The Nou Camp this summer.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is thought to be interested in the defender and could also swoop for another La Liga player – Sevilla’s Carlos Bacca.

The 28-year-old, who scored 28 goals last season, is thought to be a key target of Rodgers as he looks to bolster his attacking options.

Arsenal interest

Arsenal and Liverpool are thought to be interested in the Barcelona defender as they both look to improve their defensive options ahead of next season.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has already been linked with one defender this week – Napoli’s Faouzi Ghoulam is reportedly set for a £11million move to the Emirates.

The Gunners are leading the race to sign Ghoulam as part of a double swoop to sign striker Gonzalo Higuain, also of Napoli, according to Sport Mediaset.
