Romelu Lukaku joined Inter Milan from Manchester United in a deal worth around €78 million.

The Belgian striker has signed a five-year contract, breaking the Italian side’s record transfer fee in the process.

After a summer of see-sawing and a potential swap deal with Juventus involving Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic, which eventually failed, Lukaku finally chose his next destination.

After the unveiling of Lukaku’s jersey number, it is to be understood that he was in fact handed the famous No. 9 jersey which actually belongs to Mauro Icardi, who was stripped of the captaincy during the course of last season. The Italian Serie A club posted a photo of the Belgium striker wearing the No. 9 shirt on the club’s Instagram account, one day after they had signed lured him away from the Old Trafford.

Handing the iconic kit to a new arrival is the latest step in the public war between Inter and the Argentine striker. He has been heavily linked with a switch to Serie A champions Juventus, with the Bianconeri seeking further firepower to complement five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo. Moreover, the Milanese side would prefer to sell him to Napoli rather than Juventus.

Another Italian club, Roma are also believed to be on the course for Icardi’s signature, as defender Juan Jesus, sent a very public message couple of days ago to his former Inter teammate on Instagram.

The former Nerazzurri captain posted the a photo on his official Instagram account to which Juan Jesus replied “I am waiting for you” together with one red and one yellow heart emoji, which are undoubtedly the colors of AS Roma.
