Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has hailed the side’s performance against Marseille on Wednesday night and believes the three points is magnificent for the club as they look to advance from the group of death.

Drawn with Marseille, Borussia Dortmund and Napoli, The Gunners knew that home games would be crucial to win and also knew if they could get some points on their travels, they would be in with a big chance of qualification to the knockout stage.

Last night, their group stage campaign got underway and thanks to Theo Walcott and Ramsey, they bagged all three points away in France and after the game, Ramsey admitted that it was a magnificent win for the club.

“It was a magnificent win for us to come here and get the three points,” he told Arsenal Player. “We did it a few seasons ago as well. It’s a tough place to come to. The pitch wasn’t the best – it was very sticky and dry and we had to continue to try and play our game. It paid off in the end and we got the win which we’re delighted with.

“We’ve tried to defend as well as we can as a team. I feel like the team has grown much stronger in that department over the last couple of seasons. We showed that if we continue to try to play the way that we want to, something will happen in the end. It did and we took our chances.

“It’s vital to get back into the swing of things in the league. We play against Stoke who have changed their style a bit under Mark Hughes. They’ve had a good start to the season so we’ll have to be switched on, get a good recovery in the next couple of days and hopefully get another win in the league.”
