ITV fans write to station after presenter promises viewers £5 to keep watching

ITV presenter Adrian Chiles has got the station in hot water after he promised viewers £5 each if they continued to watch the game they were broadcasting.

On Tuesday night, ITV4 were showing Fulham vs Sheffield United in the FA Cup and at half-time the score was still 0-0 and the game wasn’t exactly entertaining.

With the analysis complete from the former-professionals, Chiles rounded up the segment by saying ‘please viewers keep watching the game and I will pay £5 to everyone that sticks with us’.

Although the comment was clearly a joke, hundreds of football fans have emailed ITV asking for their money as they continued to watch the game, even throughout an extra 30-minutes due to the game going to extra-time.

One fan tweeted ITV this: “I’m currently watching Fulham v Sheffield United on ITV4. It’s an awful game. Possibly the worst I’ve ever seen. But I’m still persisting. At half time in extra time Adrian Chiles said ‘if you’re still watching, write in and we’ll send you a fiver each’.

“This is obviously a stupid thing for any presenter to say – and I doubt it was on the cue cards. However, I’d like my fiver please. If not then I shall formally complain about your dreadful presenter lying to the one viewer. I’d prefer it in cash or cheque… Alternatively a signed photo of Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield would do.”

It is unclear as of yet what ITV intend to do about the disgruntled fans, but clearly Chiles’ joke has backfired on him and also the station.
