Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is delighted with the start the side have made to the new Premier League campaign and believes it’s down to the players gaining a killer instinct during last season’s tight top-four battle.

The Gunners were well off the pace for Champions League football, but after winning 10 out of the last 11 games, they managed to overtake Tottenham Hotspur and once again achieve a top-four spot under Arsene Wenger.

Last season’s end has carried over to this season’s beginning, despite the slip-up at home to Aston Villa on the opening day, as Arsenal have won five out of the six games and sit top of the tree above Liverpool by two points.

The club are now on a 12-game winning streak on their travels after their 2-1 victory in Wales against Swansea City and Wilshere believes it’s down to the club knowing how to win games now and showing a killer instinct when they need to the most.

“We started that towards the end of last season. We knew we had to win games because we had to get that fourth spot,” said the England international.

“We were going towards the end of the season, knowing that because we had dropped points earlier in the season, we had to win games.

“I think we have continued that into this season and that’s vital in this league. You saw that Manchester United and Manchester City slipped up and I remember a few years ago when I broke into the team, when they lost, we lost. We failed to capitalise, but this time we did, which is nice.

“I think we showed a different side to our game and hopefully we can continue that.”
