The midfielder left the Gunners on a free transfer during the transfer window

Jack Wilshere left Arsenal as a free agent during the transfer window after failing to sign a contract extension with the club. He was included in the club’s released player list and joined West Ham United on a free transfer.

The England International, who was at the club since the age of 9, made it clear that his preferred option was to stay at his boyhood club even before Arsene Wenger retired. The Frenchman has also expressed his desire to keep him at the club beyond this summer.

But the 26 year old changed his mind after a meeting with the new manager Unai Emery as he was concerned about his role under him. The former PSG boss told him that he would likely to be a bit part player in this season.

He wanted to play regular football in the next season and feels it will stagnate his career if he doesn’t get regular game time. Thus deciding to leave after staying 17 years at the club.

The Hammers will face Gunners on Saturday and is determined to prove a point to his former club.

“It’s down to me to prove a point to Arsenal that they were wrong to get rid of me,”  Wilshere told West Ham’s match-day programme, as quoted by Sky Sports.

“It’ll be a strange one for me as I was never able to go there and play when I went out on loan as you can’t play against your parent club,” Hr added. “But it’s one I’m looking forward to… I quite fancy our chances.”

“You need to be ready, you need to learn quick and adapt fast,” he told the club’s website.

“People said last week, ‘well it’s Liverpool and they’re going to do that to most teams’, but you need to get away from that. You need to be resilient and solid – that’s your base as a defence first and foremost.

“I think when you look back at the goals on Saturday we’ll be very disappointed, but the only way to get better is by sticking at it, working on the training ground and trying to stop the mistakes like that.”
