Arsenal to offer star £100k-a-week

Arsenal Football Club are set to offer midfielder Jack Wilshere a new five-year contract worth around £100k-a-week.

The England international showed glimpses of top form in the final game of the Premier League against West Bromwich Albion, and then continued his impressive form for country, scoring two stunning goals against Slovenia.

Manchester City Interest

Wilshere, who has been hit with injury problems throughout his career, will be looking to have a fully-fit campaign next year and has reiterated his desire to stay in North London with his boyhood club, but he has been linked with a shock move away.

Manchester City are desperate to sign the box-to-box midfielder, and are reportedly willing to offer up to £40million for the 23-year-old.

Wilshere has been linked with a move away after struggling to break back into the first-team since returning from injury. Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey has been the preferred trio in the middle of the park, leaving the Englishman on the bench.

As well as the trio already at the club, it’s believed Morgan Schneiderlin could join The Gunners from Southampton in a deal worth £24m.

If the Frenchman does join the club, that could push Wilshere further down the pecking order, meaning the club could be willing to listen to offers from City.

However, according to reports today, Arsenal are not interested in selling their youth graduate and will in fact offer him a new deal in order to fend off City.

It’s believed Arsenal’s board will offer Wilshere a new five-year deal worth £100k-a-week, making him one of the club’s top earners alongside Theo Walcott, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

English Players Wanted

This will come as a massive blow to Manuel Pellegrini and City as they continue to search for English players after losing several in the last few months.

However, they are expected to relaunch a fresh bid for Raheem Sterling next week.
