Manchester City snubbed by England international

Manchester City have been dealt a major contract blow with James Milner snubbing a new lucrative deal worth around £135k-a-week.

The Citizens don’t want to lose the England international at the end of the season, but with his contract expiring next month, it’s looking more and more likely that he won’t be at the Etihad Stadium next year.

Lack of First-Team Football

Milner has revealed that he’s happy with the contract that’s been tabled, but he’s not convinced about the game-time City can offer him.

Since moving to City from Aston Villa, Milner has been used as a fringe player, but over the 2014/2015 campaign, the England international has been a regular in Manuel Pellegrini‘s side.

The Chilean is desperate to keep the versatile player and has offered him a lucrative contract in a last-ditch effort to keep him at the club.

Milner, who can play at right-back, all across the midfielder and up front, has attracted interest from both Liverpool and Arsenal, and it’s reported that he is hoping to move to one of those clubs over the Summer.

The 29-year-old has informed City that he won’t be penning a deal worth £135k-a-week, despite that contract earning him roughly £34million overall.

Liverpool and Arsenal Interest

It’s believed that Liverpool are in pole position to land Milner with Brendan Rodgers keen to bring him in to Anfield to replace Steven Gerrard, who’s set for his LA Galaxy move at the end of the season.

However, fresh reports have emerged claiming Milner has his heart set on a move to North London and a move to Arsenal due to their Champions League status.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool can make contract offers to Milner now as his current deal expires in just over a months time.
