James Milner will only leave Manchester City for regular first-team football, says Charlie Nicholas

Arsenal legend Charlie Nicholas believes Manchester City midfielder James Milner will not leave the club just to sit on the bench at another.

The Gunners, as well as Liverpool, have offered the England player a contract. His deal at City expires in the summer.

He appears to be biding his time and assessing his options.

Nicholas, who these days works as a pundit for Sky Sports, reckons the Yorkshireman won’t leave the Etihad Stadium just to be a benchwarmer.

“I think he just wants to play football, he’s that sort of lad,” Nicholas said on Soccer Saturday.

“He’s an intelligent footballer, he’s one of those guys that is a real team player.

“He might just go somewhere he’s going to play rather than be a substitute.”

Milner is in good form, with four goals in his last six games.
