Striker ends speculation surrounding his future

Leicester City Football Club have announced Jamie Vardy has extended his contract at the King Power Stadium, keeping him at the club until 2019.

The striker has been in red-hot form this season, breaking Ruud Van Nistelrooy‘s goal-scoring record for most goals in consecutive Premier League games, and also climbing to the top of the goal-scorers charts, scoring 18 goals so far this season.

Leicester are currently stunning world football by leading the title-race with just three months left, and after beating Manchester City 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium, they became bookmakers favourite to win the league.

After the impressive away victory, things got even better for the club as they announced the news that Vardy has penned a new contract at the club.

The new contract will keep Vardy at the club until at least 2019, and it ends the speculation surrounding his future, with several other Premier League clubs reportedly interested in signing him.

After signing the contract, the striker spoke to the club’s official website and revealed his delight at extending his stay.

Club Statements

Vardy said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be fighting to achieve something special with this Club, as part of this squad.

“I’ve never known a spirit like it – from the owners, to the manager and his staff, the players and the fans. I want to be part of it for a long time.

“Leicester City have shown nothing but total faith in me since the day I arrived here three and a half years ago and it’s impossible to measure how much that belief has helped me to improve.

“I’ll forever be grateful for the investment the Club has made in me and I’ll spend every day working to repay it.”

Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri said: “Jamie is a fighter. He has had an unbelievable journey to get to this point in his career and continues to play every game as if it’s his last. I love his spirit, which is a quality I want in my players above all else.

“He has shown what a fantastic player he is and, more importantly, he is part of a fantastic group. I am very happy that he will stay with us for a long time.”
