Jan Vertonghen has said that Barcelona have enough quality to beat Tottenham Hotspur, even if they rest Lionel Messi.

Spurs are set to face Barca in their last group stage match of the Champions League, needing a win away from home to qualify for the next round.

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen has said that Spanish giants Barcelona are always a heavy opposition to deal with, irrespective of whether they have Lionel Messi in their side or not. The north London club need a win in their last group match in the Champions League this season to qualify for the next round and it is going to be a tough encounter for them as they are set to face a charged up Barcelona side at Nou Camp.

Vertonghen was speaking to the media about the possibility of the Catalan side resting their talisman for the last match as they have already qualified for the next round. The Belgian defensive ace said, “I wouldn’t complain then.” Vertonghen added, “But with or without Messi, we need to beat them. Even if they rest players they can put out an unbelievably strong team. We know we have to be top of our game.”

The Tottenham star reminded of their win against reigning European champions Real Madrid in the last season and said, “We’ve shown before we can beat the biggest teams in the world. We put in a great performance last year against Real Madrid and at that moment they were the best team in the world. We have to probably think that Inter Milan will beat PSV at home and we need to do the same. If they draw, we might be lucky, but we’ll look at ourselves first.”
