Jay Rodriguez’s season has come to an abrupt ending and has led to the striker being ruled out of this summer’s World Cup, leaving the striker’s dream of going to Brazil shattered.
He wasa told on Monday night that he had ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament. The injury, which he picked up during his side’s 4-1 deafeat at the hands of Manchester City, will rule him out for 6 months.
Rodriguez has been in sensational form this season, scoring 15 goals in the Premier League this season. He was really pushing for a place on Roy Hodson’s plane to Brazil this summer but the injury has ruled him out and himself, and everyone involved at Southampton, are obviously gutted.
Lee Rees, in charge of football development at Southampton, said: “Jay is naturally disappointed, but is determined to get back playing for the Saints as soon as possible.
“Everything will be done to return him to full fitness and deliver a speedy recovery.
“Jay has asked us to pass on his gratitude to everyone who has shown him their concern and sympathy during the 48 hours since his injury.
“Everyone at the club now wishes Jay well and we will support him, along with his family, to ensure that an international career plays a big part in his future.”
