Jermain Defoe dismisses exit reports

Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe has dismissed talks linking him with a move away from the club, despite teams in the MLS being interested in the 31-year-old.

Ever since Spurs signed Roberto Soldado from Valencia in the Summer, Defoe has fallen down the pecking order and has only managed to get one Premier League start so far this campaign.

However, in the cup competitions, he has been on top-form, netting goals left, right and centre for Andre Villas-Boas’ side, but it’s still not enough for the Portuguese-man to put Defoe in his starting XI.

In a recent interview, the Englishman has admitted that he is growing frustrated at the lack of opportunities, but he also insists that he has no intention of leaving the club.

‘Of course it is frustrating that for all the goals, I have not had much of a chance in the Premier League,’ he told the Daily Express.

‘Fans ask me all the time, but I don’t need to tell anybody I am frustrated. That is just normal. People know I love my football, and I love scoring goals. When I am not getting the opportunity to do that, it is frustrating.

‘But I have never once said I wanted to leave this football club.’

‘I would rather say to the gaffer, ‘give me a chance’. I don’t want to go to him and say, ‘I am leaving the club’. I love the club and everybody knows that.’
