Ex-Liverpool and Chelsea midfielder, Joe Cole, urged Eden Hazard to pick The Blues over Manchester United, it has been revealed.

Whilst at French side, Lille, Hazard was a wanted man from some of the top clubs around Europe, but it was down to either Manchester United or Chelsea as the 23-year-old wanted to move to England to play in the Premier League.

In 2012, Hazard eventually made up his mind and chose to join the West London club and he has revealed that it was down to Cole, who was on loan at Lille at the time, as he advised Hazard to join Chelsea rather than Manchester United.

The duo played together in France and in a recent interview, Hazard has admitted that his advice influenced his decision.

“Yes. He said to me before when he was in Lille, ‘You have to be in Chelsea, you have to go to Chelsea because it’s the right club for you’.

“I was like, ‘OK, Joe I go’.”

“I’ve always said I wanted to play in England. There was a struggle between Chelsea and United, but according to me Chelsea has the best project.

“I was in advanced contact with both clubs and I spoke to both coaches. I want to be playing in the Champions League every year.”
