Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has claimed that the club’s defence wants to build a reputation similar to the attackers- Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. Gomez has been starting for Liverpool in the absence of Dejan Lovren. His performances led to Gareth Southgate naming him in the squad that will face Spain and Switzerland in September.
Liverpool’s attack earned quite a name for themselves after their exploits last season.
Gomez said, “We have got a very strong side and our front three is very well known after all that they did last season. But I think at the same time it is very early, we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves. Clean sheets is our job and what we want to do. We want to just keep them going and hopefully build a reputation like our front three did last year.”
Joe Gomez’s partner in central defence Virgil van Dijk said that he enjoys playing with the 21-year old. Van Dijk said, “The whole team has a great chemistry and obviously it helps a lot when your partner is a good guy and a good friend of yours as well. We both want to learn from each other. We still have a lot to learn but it has been a great start.”
Liverpool play their next Premier League fixture against Leicester City tomorrow.
