Liverpool are set to reward defender Joe Gomez with a brand new deal. The youngster has been crucial to Liverpool’s stupendous start this season and formed a formidable partnership in the heart of the backline with Virgil van Dijk.
The 21 year old’s progress hasn’t gone unnoticed and the club now wants to encourage the player’s performance with a new improved contract. Although he has sufficient years left in his contract, this contract is meant to justify his talent.
Negotiations have already started and both parties are confident a deal can be reached very soon. Except for the last match against Cardiff City the youngster has been involved in the all the top flight matches and has ensured the backline remains intact as Liverpool do have the knack of leaking unnecessary goals.
Gomez’s emergence saw him inducted into the Three Lions setup by Gareth Southgate and he played a key part as England got the better of Spain in the last UEFA Nations League match.
Jurgen Klopp who is an avid admirer of the player feels the defender is the future of Liverpool. “He has a big future here at Liverpool, no doubt about that. Joe is a very important part of the squad and it’s so nice to see.
“I remember when I came in and everybody told me about him.
“Now, seeing him full of confidence, and being really fit, I know what they were talking about when they told me how good he was and, much more importantly, how good he is .”
